Children’s Opera Chorus Welcomes Winter!
TORONTO, ON: The Canadian Children's Opera Chorus, in a kick-off to its 40th anniversary season, will present a Winter Concert by all 200 choristers at the Glenn Gould Studio Theatre on Saturday, December 8th.
Since its inception in1968, the Canadian Children's Opera Chorus has grown to over 200 singers, ranging in age from 6 – 21, and five separate choruses. There are two apprentice groups, a Principal Chorus for ages 10 – 16, an older Youth Opera Chorus and the Ruby Chorus, named after co-founder Ruby Mercer. These 5 -7 year olds have the pleasure of learning about music through singing games and eurhythmic exercises.
Led by Artistic Direct Ann Cooper Gay since 2000, the CCOC has grown to become Canada’s foremost children’s opera chorus, and the only permanent children’s opera chorus that commissions and produces operas for children on a regular basis.
The December 8th concerts will also feature guest artist Mary Lou Fallis. Canada's foremost musical comedienne is known for her CBC Diva Diaries, Primadonna series, Ms. Mozart, The Mrs. Bach Show and the highly successful TV show, Bathroom Divas.
