OUTREACH

OPERAtion KIDS

OPERAtion KIDS is the education and outreach program of the Canadian Children’s Opera Company.  Begun in 2008 with the help of the Metcalf Foundation, as an after-school program in the West end of Toronto, it has expanded to incorporate another after-school program in the East end of Toronto, teacher workshops, and workshops in schools. , and the East end meets at St. David’s Anglican Church (Donlands Subway).  OPERAtion KIDS introduces participants to the magical world of opera. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience, knowledge or ability and each workshop includes an introduction to acting, singing, prop-making, costumes, writing scripts, creating sets and stage management.

West-end after-school program
  • The workshop is appropriate for children ages 8 – 13. Although there is no audition required for the program, applicants are generally assessed to insure they are best placed in OPERAtion KIDS rather than the main program.
  • The workshop runs from September to May, for approximately 33 sessions and the cost is $20 per participant.
  • The West end program takes place on Wednesdays from 4:30 – 5:30 at Lambton Park Community School, 50 Bernice Crescent.

West-end after-school program
  • In 2011, a second OPERAtion KIDS program was started.  This new program, situated in the East end of Toronto, follows the format of the initial program.  The location of the new OPERAtion KIDS is St. David’s Anglican Church, 49 Donlands Avenue (close to the Donlands subway station).
  • The workshop runs in two independent sessions in fall and winter, on Saturdays 3:00 – 4:30pm.
  • Cost is $20 per semester.
